Launch of Nethergate Brewery Co Limited.
Dick Burge of Clare announced today that he has formed a consortium which has bought back the brewing business he co- founded in 1986.
Unfortunately, in August, the last proprietor had been obliged to retire on the grounds of ill health and the business has been placed in the hands of a local administrator.
Nethergate Brewery is one of the oldest traditional breweries in the South East, with a reputation for making fantastic beers like Old Growler, Umbel Magna, Essex Border and many more. Its quality has been recognised by CAMRA with a number of regional and national awards and in 2012, it was recognised as the Brewery of the Year by the Good Pub Guide.
Mr Burge said "I have missed being involved in the beer business and I was delighted to step in when I heard Nethergate was up for sale, especially when I confirmed that Paul Gower, the head brewer was still there. I look forward to working with him to produce some more great beers for the publicans and beer lovers in the area. I know that there has been uncertainty recently, it's been a tough couple of weeks for our staff and customers, and I would like to thank them for their loyalty."
